Books-A-Million opens at mall
The new Books-A-Million store at the Charleston Town Center has opened, said Ashley Bentley, the store's general manager.
Store hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12:30 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Hours will be extended during the holidays, Bentley said.
In addition to books, the store stocks magazines and bargain books and gifts. It has a children's section with books, learning resources, toys and games, and it has electronic readers and accessories.
A grand opening ceremony will be held soon, according to a prepared statement provided by the company.
The Charleston Town Center store is one of 41 stores in 18 states being opened by BooksA-Million in the wake of Borders' February bankruptcy and liquidation.
The store is on the second floor of the mall, in the 5,730square-foot space formerly occupied by Borders Express.
Prior to her new assignment, Bentley worked for Borders for nine years - most recently at its Borders Express mall store. The new store will employ about 10 people, according to a prepared statement provided by Books-A-Million.
Books-A-Million is the only bookstore in the mall. Books-A-Million has a store at Dudley Farms Plaza off Corridor G that contains about 20,000 square feet of space. It is Charleston's first and only book superstore.
In West Virginia, Books-A-Million also has stores in Barboursville, Bridgeport, Martinsburg, Morgantown and Triadelphia. The 19,782-square-foot Barboursville store is in the space Borders formerly occupied at the Huntington Mall.
Books-A-Million is headquartered in Birmingham, Ala. The company operates more than 200 stores in 23 states and the District of Columbia.
