Advertiser

CHARLESTON (AP) - Thirty-two mining and service companies have been honored for workplace safety in 2011.

The companies were recognized at the recent West Virginia Mining Symposium in Charleston.

The Mountaineer Guardian Awards are presented each year to companies that demonstrate a commitment to safety standards. Inspectors for the state Office of Mine Health Safety and Training nominate companies based on several criteria.

The top award for surface mines was given to Fola Coal Co.'s Surface Mine No. 1 in Clay County. For underground mines, it went to Consol Energy's Robinson Run No. 95 in Marion County.
