Wal-Mart top W.Va. private employer in 2012
CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Wal-Mart is the largest private employer in West Virginia, a title the international retail giant has held since 1998.
WorkForce West Virginia released its annual list of the state's largest private employers Tuesday, with Wal-Mart atop the list for 2012. It was followed by West Virginia United Health System, Charleston Area Medical Center Inc., the supermarket chain Kroger and Consolidation Coal. Co.
WorkForce did not release specific employment numbers for each employer on the list, citing privacy concerns.
All of the top five employers held the same positions in 2011. The next five were Lowe's Home Centers, Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc., Mentor Management Inc., St. Mary's Hospital and American Electric Power.
WorkForce says the top 10 employers of 2012 had 1,818 more on their payrolls than last year.
