QualaWash Holdings of Tampa, Fla., North America's largest provider of tank trailer cleaning, announced it has acquired Sparkle Klean of South Charleston.
Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
Aura and Charles Shannon established Sparkle Klean in 2001 in a building built by the South Charleston Area Development Corp.
The development corporation received a $153,000 low-interest loan from the West Virginia Economic Development Authority to construct the building inside the fence at The Dow Chemical Co.'s South Charleston plant. The development corporation then leased the building to Sparkle Klean.
Ownership of the building - and the outstanding loan obligation -- was transferred from the development corporation to Sparkle Klean in July 2008. David Warner, executive director of the West Virginia Economic Development Authority, said the loan was paid in full on Dec. 7.
In a prepared statement issued by QualaWash, Charles Shannon said, "I'm excited about turning the Sparkle Klean operation over to QualaWash. I know our current customers will continue to receive the personal service they've come to expect from Sparkle Klean and will greatly benefit from the industry expertise and environmental and safety know-how that the QualaWash brand provides."
QualaWash is privately owned. The company operates in 56 locations nationwide and has 550 employees.Contact writer George Hohmann at busin...@dailymail.com or 304-348-4836. Follow him at www.Twitter.com/GeorgeHohmann.
