The Long John Silver's Seafood Shop at 6 Kanawha Blvd. E., near the confluence of the Kanawha and Elk rivers, has closed.
A spokeswoman at Performance Foods Corp. of Mansfield, Ohio, the franchisee, said the restaurant closed Dec. 16 because the lease was not renewed. She said the building will be bulldozed to make way for a new hotel.
Plans were unveiled in October 2011 for a Marriott Courtyard hotel at the site of the former Elk River Town Center Inn, which once stood next to the seafood restaurant.
Last month a deed was recorded in the Kanawha Courthouse showing Southern Land Co. Limited Partnership and Dickinson Properties Limited Partnership had transferred the property to Charleston Hotel Venture Limited Liability Co. for $2.5 million.
Robert G. Tweel of Charleston organized Charleston Hotel Venture in 2010, according to the online business database maintained by West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant. Charleston Hotel Venture's office is in Fayetteville.
