n L. Marshall Washington has been named president of New River Community and Technical College, headquartered in Beckley. Washington was vice president of the Lancaster Campus of Harrisburg Area Community College in Pennsylvania. Washington succeeds Ted Spring, who left New River in November to become president of Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, N.C.
Jack Furst, a philanthropist, businessman and lifelong Boy Scouts of America volunteer, will be the keynote speaker at Concord University Foundation's March 16 scholarship fundraiser dinner at The Greenbrier Resort.
n James Dobbs and Thomas Wilmink of The Dobbs Financial Group have been honored by Northwestern Mutual. Dobbs has received Northwestern's 2013 Southern Region Managing Partner Leader Award and Wilmink has received the company's 2013 Southern Region Annuity Leader Award for their outstanding year of serving customers.
n Kim Brown Knopf, chief executive officer of Sleep Outfitters, Mattress Warehouse and Mattress King stores, was honored with the WithIt Leadership Award at a Jan. 27 gala in Las Vegas, Nev. WithIt is a leadership and networking organization for professional women in the furniture industry. Innovative Mattress Solutions, the corporate parent of Sleep Outfitters, Mattress Warehouse and Mattress King, has almost 150 stores in six states.
n Reggie Bunner, a manager in the West Virginia Public Service Commission's Transportation Enforcement Division, has been honored by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's National Training Center as its Hazardous Materials Training Program's "Instructor of the Year." Bunner has been a PSC transportation enforcement officer since 1992. He also is regional chairperson of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Cooperative Hazardous Materials Enforcement Development Conference.
n Sue Jennings, artisan and owner of Allegheny Treenware in Preston County, has been named chairperson of the Tamarack Foundation. Jennings succeeds Ann Bradley. Other 2013 officers of the foundation: Debby Sizemore, senior vice president of BB&T, Beckley, vice chairperson; Nikki Bowman, editor of WV Living magazine, Morgantown, secretary; and Harvey Peyton of the Peyton Law Firm, Nitro, treasurer. Also: Lois Crichton of Wells Fargo Advisers, Charleston, finance chair; Mindy Walls of Chesapeake Energy, Morgantown, nominating chair. Georgette Rashid George, president of E&G Inc., Charleston, was newly elected to the board.
