Former West Virginia University football standout Owen Schmitt's new saloon is set to open next week.
Schmitt's Saloon & Davisson Brothers' Music Hall, located along Cheat Road in Morgantown, is set for a soft opening early next week and an official grand opening celebration March 1 and 2, according to a press release from general manager Todd King.
Schmitt initially planned a stand-alone restaurant and bar that would feature some musical performances from area bands. But he recently partnered with the Davisson Brothers Band to make the saloon "home base" for the band.
"Chris Davisson and I have wanted to work together on a venue that combined music and sports for a couple of years now, and this seemed like the right opportunity to do it," Schmitt said in the release.
"With Todd bringing all the pieces together, The Davisson Brothers making this their home base, and Chris helping with booking the talent in here, I'm real excited about what we can accomplish," he said.
Working with Davisson, King and Schmitt have invested more than $20,000 on a high-end sound system for the music hall. Davisson said the hall is set to look and sound better than any venue the band has played at in the state.
"We all wanted the sound in this place to be top-notch, and put a lot of emphasis on a first-class sound system - I personally can't wait to crank it up with our fans packing the place," Davisson said.
Schmitt's Saloon will be open daily for lunch and serve food late into the evening.
The menu includes traditional favorites like burgers and fries, but with a twist. The burgers have cheese on the inside that will ooze out as customers bite into them. The fries aren't just sweet potato fries, but sweet potato fries topped with bacon, dried banana chips and a peanut sauce.
They will also serve an appetizer of deviled eggs topped with a bourbon and brown sugar glaze as well as deep fried pizza.
Schmitt's Saloon & Davisson Brothers' Music Hall will be open from 11 a.m. to last call Monday through Saturday and from noon to midnight or last call on Sundays.
