Kanawha institute to offer new class
The Kanawha Institute for Social Research and Action will begin offering classes to help educate potential small business owners about how to come up with a business plan.
Beginning April 22, KISRA will begin offering its "Business Plan Basics" classes at the KISRA Empowerment Center, located at 131 Perkins Avenue in Dunbar.
The classes are based on national curriculum established by NxLevel, which offers the country's largest entrepreneurial training network.
The 13 classes will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. every Monday through July 29. The cost is $75 to attend.
In addition to the classes, KISRA is also offering statewide microlender loans to new and existing state small businesses.
Available through the U.S. Small Business Administration's Microloan Program, KISRA is offering the loans to entrepreneurs who generally do not qualify for conventional loans or other, larger SBA guaranteed loans.
The loans, which range from $1,000 to $5,000, are provided to women, low-income individuals, minority entrepreneurs, and other small businesses in need of financial assistance.
