CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Carolyn Atkinson, the head of state Treasurer John Perdue's Unclaimed Property Division, has been honored by the national Unclaimed Property Professionals Organization.
Atkinson received the organization's "Members Choice Above and Beyond Award" at its national last week in San Diego.
She was honored for her efforts to create an Internet forum in which unclaimed property holders share issues important to them. She also helped craft a set of uniform, nationwide codes to signify specific types of unclaimed property.
"We are proud of Carolyn's latest honor," Perdue said. "She consistently takes on unclaimed property leadership positions on a national level. This underscores West Virginia's standing as a leader in the unclaimed property realm."
Atkinson, the state's deputy treasurer for unclaimed property, is also past-president of the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators and a winner of NAUPA's Distinguished Service Award.
