Shredding event slated for Saturday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Several local organizations are sponsoring a free "Fight Fraud, Shred Instead" recycling event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday in the Gander Mountain parking lot at Southridge Center in Charleston.

The rain-or-shine event is sponsored by AARP West Virginia and the AARP Foundation, in conjunction with the West Virginia Senior Medicare Patrol, West Virginia ElderWatch, Charleston Newspapers and Shred-It.

The service is designed to protect individuals from identity theft by securely disposing of paperwork containing sensitive personal or financial data.

Saturday's event is limited to residential paper products -- no business documents -- with a limit of 5 bags or boxes per household. The event is part of West Virginia Money Smart Week, a statewide financial education initiative. To learn more about Money Smart Week activities, visit
