CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Three West Virginia employers, including the Charleston Police Department, have been nominated as semifinalists for the U.S. Department of Defense's Employer Support Freedom Award.
Last month, members of the West Virginia Army National Guard and Reserve have nominated 13 state employers for award, the department's highest recognition for employers supporting employees serving in the Guard and Reserve.
It recognizes employers that go to extraordinary lengths for their Guardsmen and Reservists.
Guard and Reserve Service members, or family members acting on their behalf, nominated their employers.
The award committee has selected three semifinalists among the group: the Charleston Police Department, Action Facilities Management of Morgantown and Pfizer's Animal Pharmaceutical Division at Willow Island.
Nearly 2,900 employers were nominated nationwide. Up to 15 award recipients will be announced this summer and honored in Washington, D.C. later this year.
