CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- What's the pen name of etiquette authority Judith Martin?
Ms. Manners, that's who.
What's the first name of the Beast from Disney's "Beauty and the Beast?"
Why it's Vincent.
These questions might seem trivial, but they're not if you're a Charleston corporate competitor.
Rather than sprinting, leaping or lifting, local desk dwellers can prove their prowess at knowledge both common and uncommon.
That's because after 28 years of strictly physical challenges, the YMCA has added a mental event to its annual Corporate Cup Competition.
The teambuilding competition pits teams of employees from companies across the Kanawha Valley against each other in a variety of challenges as they vie for the most overall points.
Companies are placed in one of three divisions based on their number of employees.
Activities range from traditional team sports like volleyball and soccer to darts and billiards. This year, in an attempt to attract more participants, a "Brain Challenge" trivia contest was added.
"We wanted to get a competition that might not be as physical, because we want to reach out to all employees," said Celia Givens, a YMCA employee involved in organizing the competition.
For the first round of trivia, 14 four-member teams representing companies from Division II went head to head Tuesday night at Timothy's, a nightspot on Quarrier Street in downtown Charleston.
