Casinos unveil new mobile betting app
MTR Gaming Group, Inc., the parent company of the Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort, on Monday announced a new mobile wagering application that will allow customers at its three racetracks to place bets using their smartphone or iPad.
The app will allow racetrack customers to bet on live or simulcast racing while they are in specific areas of the track facility.
In addition to the Mountaineer Casino in Chester, the app can be used at MTR's Presque Isle Downs & Casino in Erie, Pa., and Scioto Downs Racino in Columbus, Ohio.
Joseph Billhimer, MTR Gaming's acting president and chief operating officer, said the app will offer a better experience for customers by allowing them a safe and secure way to place a bet without having to leave their seats.
Officials also hope it will attract younger customers to the racetrack casinos.
"Younger folks spend more time on smart phones than older folks," said chief marketing officer Fred Buro. "It stands to reason that if an industry hopes to appeal to a younger demographic, it needs to communicate with them on devices they prefer and in the case of racing technology, on platforms they can relate to."
The mobile wagering technology will allow customers to bet on most races in the nation while on the MTR property. Transactions will take place over a secure WiFi network. Users will have to be 18 years or older and provide legal identification to register an account.
