* The Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh has announced that Patrick Bond, founding partner at Mountaineer Capital and chairman of the Charleston Area Alliance board of directors, has been named a National Association of Corporate Directors Fellow.

The recognition is the highest level of credentialing for corporate directors and corporate governance professionals. Bond is the first West Virginian to earn the status.

* William A. Loving Jr., chairman of the national Independent Community Bankers Association, and president and chief executive officer at Pendleton Community Bank (Pendleton) in Franklin, has received the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh Council's Award.

Loving received the award at the Community Bankers of West Virginia's annual convention at Stonewall Resort in recognition of his support for small businesses and affordable housing lending programs.  


* The Women's Business and Training Center, a Beckley nonprofit, honored New River Gorge Development Authority executive director Judy Radford with the 2013 Friend of Business Award at the organization's 2013 Empowering Women Conference.

The organization said Radford's 25-year history of promoting economic development and business initiatives through the authority demonstrated that she "has truly been a friend of business in southern West Virginia."


* Ed Borkowski, president of G&W Industrial Sales in Parkersburg, was recently inducted into the Wilden Pump and Engineering Hall of Fame.

Borkowski purchased G&W Industrial Sales in 1989. Wilden officials said Borkowski's "entrepreneurial personality, pioneering efforts, decisiveness, and leadership" helped make the pump manufacturer a global leader in air-operated double-diaphragm pumps.


* Houston-based Gastar Exploration Ltd. has named Wood County resident Michael McCown as the company's new chief operating officer.

A former head of the state Independent Oil And Gas Association, he has been responsible for Gastar's operations in the Marcellus Shale and Hunton Limestone areas.


* Jeffrey S. VanMatre, P.E. has joined the Charleston office of Potesta & Associates, Inc. as chief engineer for the engineering and environmental consulting firm.

VanMatre has 27 years of environmental experience with emphasis in health and safety management and has developed global and national level policies in the areas of industrial hygiene, environmental management and air, water and waste compliance.


* The West Virginia Small Public Utilities Association, which is made up of several gas, water and electric service providers, has elected new officers for its 2013 to 2014 term.

Christian Smith of Union Oil and Gas Co. has been named president; Doug Malcolm of Consumers Gas Utility Co. will serve as vice president; Lorna Howard of Lumberport-Shinnston Gas Co. is secretary; and Arden Swecker of Canaan Valley Gas Co. will serve as treasurer.
