* NiSource executive Jimmy D. Staton has been appointed to the board of directors of MVB Financial Corp. Staton will serve as a member of the board's Human Resources and Compensation Committee and also on the board of directors for the company's subsidiary, MVB Bank, Inc.
Staton is currently an executive vice president with NiSource, serving as group CEO of the company's natural gas transmission line subsidiary, Columbia Pipeline Group. Staton's term on the MVB board is subject to shareholder approval at the company's 2014 annual meeting.
* Bernie Layne, partner with Charleston law firm Mani, Ellis and Layne, has been elected president of the West Virginia Association for Justice, which represents more than 500 plaintiffs attorneys throughout West Virginia and surrounding states.
A 1999 graduate of the University of Dayton College of Law, Layne has built his practice on representing injured workers and families of workers killed on the job. He succeeds Wheeling attorney Scott Blass as president of the association.
* Kevin Highlander has joined the Arnett Foster Toothman accounting firm in Charleston as senior manager with the firm's tax practice.
A certified public accountant and graduate of West Virginia University Institute of Technology, Highlander has several years of experience solving complex tax matters for corporations and partnerships.
* Brandon Totten, community relations manager for American Medical Facilities Management, recently received a Crystal Award in the Single Issue Newsletter/Booklet category from the West Virginia Chapter of the Public Relations Society.
The award was in recognition of Totten's work on the 2013 AMFM Calendar, titled "Family, Commitment and Quality Care." AMFM owns and operates 11 skilled nursing, rehabilitation and long-term care facilities throughout West Virginia.
