Mattress Warehouse opening S.C. store
CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Mattress Warehouse plans to open its 152nd store where it all began.
The company will officially open its newest store Friday in the former Blockbuster location at South Charleston's River Walk Mall, not too far from where the company's first store opened three decades ago.
Company owner Kim Knopf opened her first store on D Street in South Charleston in November 1983. The company had maintained a South Charleston presence until March, when it closed its Spring Hill store in order to move to the new location.
The River Walk Mall site will be 40 percent larger than the former location in Spring Hill.
As the company celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, Knopf said she was glad to open a new location in South Charleston.
"I am grateful to this city for giving me and my company our start," Knopf said. "I am pleased to open a new, state-of-the-art Mattress Warehouse in the great city of South Charleston, where it all began."
As part of its 30-year celebration, Mattress Warehouse will be giving away a queen-sized mattress set every week for 30 weeks.
Customers may register each week on one of the company's Facebook pages for a chance to win one of six different mattress sets from Sealy, Tempur-Pedic, Stearns & Foster, Octaspring, and Knopf's new uDream mattress line.
The uDream line was introduced this spring and features innerspring and memory foam mattresses that Knopf says "are designed to be more affordable and of higher quality at every price level."
Knopf's company, Innovative Mattress Solutions, is now headquartered in Winfield and operates the Mattress Warehouse, Sleep Outfitters and Mattress King store chains in West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee and Alabama.
Earlier this year, industry publication Furniture/Today rated Innovative Mattress Solutions as the 8th largest bedding retailer and 61st largest furniture store in the country.
