CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Gayle Manchin has been appointed to the board of directors at MVB Financial Corp., the company announced Monday.
The former first lady and wife of Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., currently serves as president of the state Board of Education.
In a news release, the company called Gayle Manchin, "A passionate advocate for education and volunteerism to build stronger communities."
"We are pleased to have Gayle join our board," said Larry Mazza, chief executive officer of MVB Financial Corp.
"As a long-time champion for education throughout West Virginia, Gayle brings a unique perspective as to what it takes to establish the infrastructure to support West Virginia businesses and help them succeed," Mazza said.
Gayle Manchin owns up to $250,000 worth of stock in the company, according to recent Congressional financial disclosures filed by her husband's office.
Sen. Manchin, who serves on the Senate Banking Committee, does not own any direct shares of the company. In fact, Manchin sold a stake in United National Bank last year in advance of more stringent ethics laws that took effect this year that tightened stock ownership rules for members of Congress.
MVB Financial Corp. formed in 2004 and has since grown into multiple business units, including MVB Bank, Potomac Mortgage Group (which does business as MVB Mortgage) and MVB Insurance.
Gayle Manchin's term is subject to the approval of shareholders, who will vote on her term at the company's next annual meeting in 2014.
