PSC OK's natural gas vehicle fueling rate

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The state Public Service Commission has approved a rate schedule that will allow Mountaineer Gas customers to begin filling natural gas vehicles.

The rate schedule, approved Friday, also gives the gas company permission to include a $1,000 credit for each new fueling account activated before July 19, 2014.

The credit is intended to stimulate the growth of natural gas-powered vehicle use by offsetting some of the costs of installing a fuel dispenser. The credit can be used for both home and commercial fuel dispensers.

"Mountaineer Gas Company intends to support the development of the (natural gas-powered vehicle) fleet in West Virginia," President Tom Taylor said.

Taylor said the PSC action "is another step forward in making low-cost natural gas available for use as a transportation fuel."

Mountaineer Gas is the state's largest natural gas distribution company. Headquartered in Charleston, it served about 220,000 customers across the state.
