Job search strategies available for people over 50

Kanawha Valley residents who are 50 or older and unemployed are invited to attend a BACK TO WORK 50+ information session hosted by the AARP Foundation from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Workforce West Virginia, 1321 Plaza East.

Attendees will learn about effective job search strategies for people older than 50, receive a listing of local job search resources and meet with community organizations that provide job search help and training resources.

The session will highlight in-demand jobs like medical assistant and front office staff. Job seekers will learn strategies for successfully completing a job interview, what resume most employers prefer and many options for local job skills training.

Attendees may sign up to receive one-on-one personal assistance from local organizations. Refreshments will be provided.

Participating organizations include: AARP Foundation; AARP West Virginia; Charleston- Kanawha Housing Authority; Goodwill Industries of the Kanawha Valley; Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College; Manpower; Metropolitan Community Development Corporation; Region III WorkForce Investment Board; Strategic Planning in Occupational Knowledge for Employment and Success (SPOKES); Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP); and Work-Force West Virginia.
