HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Stewarts Original Hot Dogs has sold the property of one of its four locations.
The Stewart's at 1st Street and Adams Avenue closed on Saturday, but the three other locations at 2445 5th Ave. in Huntington, Oak Street in Kenova and Town Centre Drive in Ashland are all still open and doing well, Stewarts President John Mandt Jr. said.
He said he got an offer on the 1st Street property that was simply too good to refuse, and though he said he cannot release the name of the purchaser at this time, he believes the establishment will be a nice addition to the community. He expects the business, which is not another restaurant, to make an announcement soon.
"We've enjoyed 34 years at that location — since 1979," he said. "We'd like to thank everyone that ate there and the workers employed there."
There were five employees working there at the time the restaurant closed, and all five kept their jobs and were transferred to the 5th Avenue location, he said.
Between the three remaining locations, the online business and catering, Stewarts will remain busy, Mandt said. And he said he's considering opening a location in the Barboursville area if feasible.
