*West Virginia Manufacturing Association president Karen Price will retire at the end of the year, after more than two decades with the association.
Rebecca McPhail Randolph, currently the president of state economic development for Vision Shared, will join the association Nov. 1 and take over the president's role after Price retires.
Karl J. Boelter, chairman of the association's board of directors, said Price has been instrumental in shaping pro-manufacturing policies in the state in recent years. He said Randolph will provide strong leadership to continue shaping policies that build on the state's competitive strengths.
* Brian Ulery has joined Thomas Health System as vice president of ancillary and support services. In that role, he will be responsible for managing clinical services such as the laboratory, radiology and physical therapy, as well as support services, including dietary and housekeeping.
An Elkins native, Ulery is returning to the state after holding positions at the Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Ga., and Broward Health in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
* Mitch Farrar has been hired as vice president of quality control at First Sentry Bank.
Farrar has worked in the local financial services industry for more than 26 years, serving the last 13 years as a vice president with BB&T. First Sentry Bank president Geoffrey Sheils said Farrar brings a wealth of commercial banking experience and deep knowledge of the local business community.
*The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has appointed four attorneys from Steptoe & Johnson's West Virginia offices to the Chamber's national policy committees.
L. Frederick Williams Jr. was appointed to the Chamber's taxation committee; Christopher L. Slaughter will serve on the labor relations committee; David M. Flannery will serve on the energy, clean air and national resources committee; and L. Gil White, the firm's government relations coordinator, will serve on the Chamber's Council on Small Business.
*Lisa Harkins was named executive director of the Concord University Foundation effective Oct. 1.
Originally from Franklin, Tenn., Harkins earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas, Austin and has a background in development, fundraising and event planning.
