Scott Rotruck has joined the Spilman Thomas & Battle law firm as Director of Energy and Transportation Services.
A former vice president of corporate development and government relations with Chesapeake Energy, Rotruck will be a member of Spilman's government relations team, assisting attorneys and clients with government relations and legal matters in the natural resources, energy, environmental and public utility sectors.
Matthew Gilliam and Elizabeth Turgeon have joined Robinson & McElwee as associates in the firm's Charleston office.
Gilliam has worked for the U.S. Department of Justice and with the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. He will work in the firm's business and corporate group.
Turgeon will work with the firm's energy and environment group. She has competed with the Holderness Moot Court Environmental Negotiations Team, served on the Environmental Law Project board, and was selected as a national member of the Order of Barristers.
Flaherty Sensabaugh Bonasso associate Danielle Waltz Swann has been elected National Conference Chair of the 2014 Defense Research Institute's Construction Law Conference, which will be held next September in San Diego, Calif.
Swann is currently serving a three-year term with the Construction Law Group's leadership steering committee. She focuses her legal practice on civil litigation in the areas of commercial, general and construction litigation.
The University of Charleston School of Pharmacy has added four new members to its faculty and administrative staff.
Susan Gardner has joined the school as Assistant Dean of Professional and Student Affairs. Gardner, who earned a PhD in Higher Education Administration at Capella University, recently served as Vice President for Student Services at Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College.
Leah Hall has joined the pharmacy practice department as an assistant professor. A graduate of West Virginia University School of Pharmacy, Hall practices in the Charleston Area Medical Center-Palliative Care unit
Brittany Snodgrass has also been hired as an assistant professor of pharmacy practice. She works out of the Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Shaowei Wan has joined the pharmaceutical and administrative science department as an assistant professor. Wan completed doctor of philosophy in pharmaceutical socioeconomics at the University of Iowa and received an MBA in pharmaceutical and healthcare marketing at Saint Joseph's University.
The Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau and CEO Alisa Bailey have recognized by the Southeast Tourism Society and West Virginia Tourism Commission.
The tourism society named the Charleston organization its 2013 CVB of the Year among organizations with a less than $2 million annual budget. Bailey also received the annual Chairman of the Board award, which recognizes the person who been a significant asset and made the greatest contributions during the prior year.
