LAW Scott Barnette has joined the Charleston office of Bowles Rice LLP, where he will focus his practice in energy and real estate development.
A former real estate broker and appraiser, Barnette also teaches organizational leadership as an adjunct professor at the University of Charleston. Before joining Bowles Rice, he served as general counsel to the West Virginia Military Authority.
Kay Hillabold received the 2013 Member of the Year Award from the West Virginia Desk and Derrick Club during the group's Industry Appreciation Luncheon earlier this year.
Hillabold is employed by Chesapeake Energy and serves as vice president of the club's board of directors.

HOSPITALITYShelly Sparks has been named new general manger of the Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham in Gassaway.
Huffman Properties LLC, which owns the hotel, recently retained Maryland-based Coakley & Williams as the hotel's management firm. The firm hired Sparks to manage the 74-unit hotel.
She will be assisted by new front office manager J.C. Hoard.
