Champan Technical acquired by GRW
Chapman Technical Group has been acquired by GRW, a full-service engineering, architectural, geospatial firm based in Lexington, Ky.
Chapman, based in St. Albans, provides engineering, architectural, interior design, surveying and landscape architectural services for clients throughout West Virginia.
The company was founded in 1984 by Nitro native Harvey Chapman. When Chapman died in 1996 at the age of 48, his wife Sharon took over the firm and oversaw its growth.
GRW has offices in Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana and Ohio. The company had considered expanding into West Virginia for some time, according to a press release announcing the deal.
GRW President Ron Gilkerson, a West Virginia native and a Marshall University graduate, said the acquisition made sense because of the similar nature of the firms and the success Chapman has enjoyed over the years.
Chapman Technical Group will maintain its corporate identity following the acquisition. Sharon Chapman will remain with the firm and provide interior design services.
Joining GRW will allow Chapman to add a wider range of services, including the most technologically current geospatial services.
