Charleston Town Center food retailer Great American Cookie Co. closed this week, though mall officials say the closing is not related to the recent Elk River chemical leak and water shutdown.
Mall marketing director Lisa McCracken said the cookie store, located on the mall's ground floor, closed Monday. McCracken said the lease for the retailer's space expired this week and company officials decided not to renew it.
She said the decision was made before last month's Freedom Industries chemical leak and do-not-use order from West Virginia American Water Co.
"The Great American Cookie Company determined some time ago not to renew their lease," McCracken said. "Their decision has absolutely nothing to do with the West Virginia American Water Company's current water contamination situation."
Great American Cookie Co. was one of two cookie stores at the mall. The Cookie Store, also located on the ground floor, remains open. Mall officials said last week that store was one of several not using tap water in its food preparation.
