Susan Poffenbarger's new exhibit at The Art Store is like a little trip to her favorite West Virginia places.
There's Beartown State Park, Hawk's Nest Park, the Kanawha River, the New River.
And there are some spots that aren't quite as familiar, such as those showing her new passion for waterfalls. Her favorite spot is Valley Falls near Fairmont.
"I'm inspired by water and waterfalls now," the Charleston artist said. "I'm going to paint and paint them."
Saturday, her new exhibit opens with 15 pieces that include oils paintings and pastel drawings.
Poffenbarger, 72, says this may be her last solo exhibit. The pieces represent about 18 months of work.
That's not to say she's retiring. She paints nearly every day, in a sunny enclosed balcony of the downtown apartment she and her husband, John, bought after selling their longtime home in Dunbar.
