CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Anthony Lawton said he's relishing a theatrical role in which he gets to kiss the girl.
"That's unusual for me," the Philadelphia actor said.
Oops. Belated spoiler alert. Although, not really, if you are familiar with Jules Verne's fun adventure story, "Around the World in 80 Days."
Lawton plays Phileas Fogg in the Walnut Street Theater's version, which is touring in the region and makes a stop at the Clay Center Sunday evening.
"I usually play the hot or the heavy role," Lawton said. "So this is a welcome change."
He also gets to perform in a British accent, one of several he has in his bag of tricks after more than 20 years in the business.
The play, adapted from a serial story that was first published in 1873, follows the lead character, Fogg, as he seeks to win a bet that he can circumnavigate the world in 80 days.
The wild and crazy trip finds Fogg in some very unusual circumstances that take him quite out of his comfort zone.
