CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The musicians of the local band Juicy were having so much fun learning a few Pink Floyd songs to add to their playlist, they got a grand idea: Do a tribute show to the English rock band.
Next thing you know, they've booked the Civic Center Little Theater and purchased equipment to give the show authenticity. That includes a 12-foot circular screen, a projector, laser lights and even additional musical instruments they then had to learn to play.
"That's the lose-your-shorts part of this," joked band member Chris Amick. If they wanted to put on a reasonably realistic tribute to Pink Floyd, the band figured the purchases were necessary.
"It's a bit of a leap of faith," Amick acknowledged.
But what the heck - the self-described gray-haired musicians are in it for the fun and to expand their musical horizons a bit.
Saturday night, the band that calls itself Juicy will perform a couple of hours' worth of Pink Floyd, from "Dark Side of the Moon" to more recent fare, with the exception of various band members' solo material and early Syd Barrett songs.
While this year is the 40th anniversary of the release of "Dark Side of the Moon," the album that brought Pink Floyd commercial and critical success, the band members admit the timing is a complete accident.
