One reason is that they're good.
"We're a non-auditioned group at this point, but it's worked out really well. It so happens that the guys who come in have backgrounds in music," Burdette said. During its season, the group rehearses weekly.
"It's not some kitschy little gay men's choir. We sing quality choral music," Burdette said.
The program for this weekend includes Broadway and opera and such selections as "Summertime," from "Porgy and Bess"; "Ease on Down the Road" from "The Wiz"; and "Seasons of Love" from "Rent."
WomanSong will join the chorale on four pieces. Next weekend's WomanSong concert also will include Broadway and opera, with guest female singers including Mariel Boggs, Sandy Sowell and Laurie Pennington.
Burdette said working with the chorale filled that missing part of his life, so much so that he realized he wanted to return to the classroom. He's now teaching music at East Bank Middle School.
