Lewis Black is an optimist, really, he is.
"You couldn't do what I'm doing if you were a pessimist," said the well-known comedic ranter.
On the other hand, it's not always easy.
"That's the frustration. I wake up every day thinking we're going to turn things around, but by my first cup of coffee, I realize . . ." he said.
"The older I get, the worse it gets. Because you live through it again and again and again. We've been having this health care debate for 45 years. You'd think we'd have it fixed by now."
It is possible that very discussion - OK, rant - may come out tonight when Black takes the stage at the Clay Center.
Be warned. There will be cussing. Black blurts. Famously.
And though he says in everyday life he really is a mild-mannered guy, he certainly can work himself into a lather when it comes to the absurdities of everyday life, the kind of stuff all of us read in the newspapers and see on TV.
His stand-up routine comes from real life.
