CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The state is gearing up for dozens of activities to commemorate its sesquicentennial.
While many take place in Charleston, other cities have events organized as well, such as Wheeling, the state's first capital.
For example, the PBS documentary, "West Virginia: The Road to Statehood" airs Wednesday at Wheeling's Independence Hall.
Several of the state's welcome centers will host celebrations on June 20.
And numerous cities around the state will mark the day with individual events.
Following is a roundup of events that take place outside Charleston. Full coverage of Charleston events will run in the Daily Mail this coming week.
