Knechtly was still in high school when the band released its first EP in 2003. More have followed, featuring original music written by Knechtly and Colwell, who come up with story lines and topics.
"The music part is definitely collaborative," guitarist Knechtly said.
While Colwell played in marching band during high school and Knechtly sang in choir for two years, all of the musicians play primarily by ear, he said.
All of them live in southern Ohio near Cincinnati, where they have day jobs.
"We do weekend warrior kind of stuff," Knechtly said. "And since we're not out doing it six days a week, by the weekend we crave it."
It's the band's first appearance at Live on the Levee, though Knechtly said it's not his first visit to West Virginia.
The band travels to surrounding states and has been as far as New York and Florida.
"We've never been out West before," he said.
This summer, after traveling the festival circuit, the band plans to head back into the studio to record a new album.
