Friday night jam a gathering place for Elkview residents
Patrons swing dance to music by the Country Swingers at the Elk River Community Center on a recent night. A local band plays each week at the center's Friday night jams.
The cost for Friday night jams begin each week at 7 p.m. at the Elkview Community Center. Cost of entry is $5 and students are admitted for free. Food and refreshments are provided.

The Country Swingers band plays classic country music for those at a recent Friday night jam. Laura Lee Jarrett, 85, joins the group with her harmonica, an instrument she has played since she was a toddler.
Freda Taylor, 83, retired from Columbia Gas after 28 years of service and has been coming to the jams ever since. She is the center's secretary and assists with operations.
