CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Michael Hamburg and his friend Brennan Latkovski were just 20-something guys looking to have a little fun when they entered a lip-syncing contest at a pro hockey game some 23 years ago.
They performed as The Blues Brothers, jumping on a hot pop culture phenomenon at the time. The late John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd had just come out in the John Landis movie by the same name that expanded roles they had created for "Saturday Night Live."
"My partner and I were watching 'The Blues Brothers' movie and I said, 'I bet we could do that,'" Hamburg recalled.
"We did a lip-sync to 'Soul Man' at a pro hockey event — we ended up winning and we won a trip to the Bahamas."
The two figured they could parlay this little character thing into some money.
