SOAR Dunk, a basketball team with high-flying fancy maneuvers, is coming to the area to present a free event.
SOAR, an acronym for Soul'd Out and Ready, is a ministry team from Liberty University made up of members who travel about the country using acrobatic maneuvers off trampolines to entertain crowds. The sports presentation is followed by a brief talk.
SOAR Dunk will be at Sissonville Middle School 2 p.m. Saturday.
Jeff Mosteller, outreach pastor for Lighthouse Worship Center near Sissonville, heard about the team through a Christian organization that hosted SOAR in Boone County for an event. After seeing a video with their fancy basketball maneuvers, he invited them to Kanawha County.
"I thought 'Wow, this needs to come to Sissonville,'" Mosteller said. "I called and spoke to their director about March or April."
He also contacted area churches to get help for paying the team's expenses. While admission to the event is free, donations will be accepted to help offset costs.
Mosteller said he has placed posters throughout the community to advertise the event and has also had it announced on K-Love Christian radio.
"It will appeal to youth groups and basketball fans," Mosteller said. "It will be family oriented. You can bring the kids and not worry about cursing or bad scenes like in the movies."
He hopes it also may draw youth and adults who may not attend church, he said.
