Liberty University is a private, Christian university located in Lynchburg, Va.
According to the Liberty University web site, SOAR is described as a "high-flying dunk basketball team that uses acrobatic maneuvers off of trampolines to dazzle crowds of all ages."
It also says team members are "not afraid of flying high above the rim, nor boldly sharing their faith in Jesus Christ while using their own worship style."
Tim Jackson, associate director of ministry teams, said SOAR Dunk visits public and private schools as well as church related events.
Following a 35- to 40-minute show, a talk is given by one of the team members. In a public school, the brief presentation focuses on integrity, good character and staying away from drugs and alcohol, he said. At events such as the one this held on a weekend, a team member will offer personal testimony about his faith. Team members also do some recruiting for the university.
Team members put in long practice hours, travel throughout the country, and stay physically fit. Seven men from the nine-member team will be coming to West Virginia, including Tim Davis, Joshua Bailey, Shawn Lewis, James Marcouillier, Andrew Willis, Joshua Fowler and Justin Matzker.
