You've heard of mud runs; now try a fun 5K where you end up looking like your own work of art.
The Color Vibe 5K is scheduled for Saturday, starting at Magic Island. It's a non-competitive event (not timed), and proceeds benefit a local charity - in this case, the West Virginia Special Olympics.
The color part: as runners progress through the course, they pass through several color stations, where they are sprayed with a non-toxic, cornstarch-based colored powder. By the end of the run, they are virtual rainbows.
Runners are encouraged to wear glasses to protect their eyes; many runners also choose to wear bandanas covering their mouths.
The run starts at 9 a.m.
To register, visit www.thecolorvibe.com and click on the link to the Charleston event. You also may register in person between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Friday at the Charleston Civic Center, Parlors A and B. That's the same time for packet pickup for runners already registered.
Runners also may register the day of the race at Magic Island, starting at 7 a.m.Online registration is $46 through Friday. Cost is $50 in person. The run takes place rain or shine.
