CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- When Mountain Stage pulls into the Clay Center Sunday night, the staff and crew will experience a homecoming of sorts.
With two show tapings this month at the North House Folk School in Grand Marais, Minnesota, and trips to Atlanta and Nashville for conferences to promote and celebrate the show's 30th year, Mountain Stage carries a bit of momentum as it reconvenes to tape its 800th unique broadcast.
Host Larry Groce said there's a good feeling surrounding the staff and crew members as they reach yet another milestone.
"Mountain Stage seems to be experiencing a bit of a renaissance," Groce said. "We're picking up stations and getting the word out with these visits to the Public Radio Program Directors Conference in Atlanta and the Americana Conference in Nashville."
Producer Adam Harris returned to Charleston this past Sunday after 13 days out of town making all three stops in Grand Marais, Atlanta and Nashville. While all of the miles traveled and work put in certainly serves the show well, Harris said the team has been looking forward to Sunday.
"Whenever we say we're about to record our 800th episode, the general reaction is 'Wow,' because the longevity is something to be commended," said Harris. "Then when they hear the lineup, the wow factor is doubled."
