The Children's Theater of Charleston will present "Seussical Jr." tonight through Sunday at the Civic Center Little Theater.
The musical is based on several of Dr. Seuss' books and debuted on Broadway in 2000. The main plot of the show mirrors that of "Horton Hears a Who!," centering on Horton the Elephant's endeavors to protect the people of Whoville, who live on a tiny speck of dust.
It also features characters and scenarios from many other Seuss books, including the Butter Side Uppers/Downers from "The Butter Battle Book,""Gertrude McFuzz," and in addition to a music number based on its original story, "The Cat in the Hat" also acts as the host and master of ceremonies. Other characters appearing include lazy Mazie, Jojo, The Grinch, Yertle the Turtle, Cindy Lou Who and The Mayor of Whoville.
Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students.
Jennifer Garner has autographed a box set of her hit series "Alias," to be raffled off during the "Seussical Jr." run. Chances to win will cost $1 each and will be sold in the lobby of the Civic Center prior to every performance, with a winner being drawn on Sunday. All proceeds from the raffle will go toward future CTOC productions.
