A Step Afrika! Performance will be held at West Virginia State University 7 p.m. Monday.
Step Afrika! was founded in 1994 as the first professional company dedicated to the tradition of stepping. It now ranks as one of the top 10 African American dance companies in the United States.
The event will take place at the university's Ferrell Hall Auditorium in Institute. It will open with brief presentations by Appalachian dancers as well as feature stepping performances from some of the university's fraternities. There will be a reception following the conclusion of Step Afrika!'s performance on the first floor of Ferrell Hall.
This event is open to the public and free to all students, staff and faculty with a W.Va. State ID. Tickets for the general public are $10 at the door, and seating will be first come, first served.
