"I didn't take any shortcuts," he said. "I made sure everything was the way it is on the show."
McGee said he became interested in "The Walking Dead" when his daughter recommended it to him. He began watching the show in the second season and has been hooked ever since.
"I make sure I watch it every Sunday," McGee said. "If I miss it, I have it taped. 'The Walking Dead' and 'Breaking Bad' are hands down the two best shows on television."
McGee and his girlfriend, Janet Dooley, have traveled to conventions featuring "The Walking Dead" cast members in Columbus and Louisville.
They took the motorcycle to Columbus for the 2013 Wizard World Ohio Comic Con in September. They head to Atlanta Friday for "The Walking Dead" fan convention, also known as the Walker Stalker Convention. The event will feature 17 cast members and will last three days.
He plans to dress as the character Hershel Greene, a wise one-legged veterinarian, for the event.
"The show is filmed in Atlanta so it will be pretty cool to go there," McGee said. "We will take the bike and put it on display. It seems to be a fan favorite."
While in Columbus, McGee and Dooley met several cast members, including Norman Reedus who plays Daryl Dixon, Scott Wilson who plays Hershel Greene, Michael Rooker who plays Merle Dixon, Irone Singleton who plays T-Dog and Chandler Riggs who plays Carl Grimes. Reedus, Wilson and Rooker signed McGee's motorcycle.
"So many fans wanted to get their picture on my bike. More than 200 people paid $10 each to sit on my bike for a photo op," McGee said.
"It was really cool. All the actors we met were great. Norman Reedus came up to me and said 'you should have built it better . . . the motorcycle on the show is crap.' I know it was crap but I'm a huge fan and I wanted to mimic every part."
McGee said the bike will accompany them to Atlanta but once they get back, he plans to take it to Ohio for some adjustments before taking it for a spin.
"The battery has to be disconnected and we cannot have any gasoline in the tank at the conventions," McGee said. "I'm thinking about building another tank because I do not want to put any gas in this tank.
"I have had several people inquire about the bike and there is one guy that is trying to buy it from me. I want the bike, not the money. If AMC would want to buy it from me to use in the show, I may have to reconsider."
In addition to his motorcycle, McGee owns a West Georgia Correctional Facility sign and a crossbow similar to the one used by Daryl on the show. The correctional facility is where most of the action takes place on "The Walking Dead."
"The Walking Dead" is based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman.
