Bettye LaVette headlines Mountain Stage Jan. 19 at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, along with David Broza, Matrimony and Declan O'Rourke.
LaVette, who broke into the R&B scene at the age of 16 with Top 10 hit "My Man - He's a Lovin' Man," found great success with the 2005 album "I've Got My Own Hell to Raise," which made many critics' "best of" lists for that year. She performed at the 2008 Kennedy Center Honors as well as the Obama Inaugural Celebration in 2009. Her work has garnered a Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation and the 2008 Blues Music Award for "Best Contemporary Female Blues Singer."
The concert starts at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30. Tickets are $15 in advance or $25 the day of the show and can be purchased at Taylor Books, online at mountainstage.org or by calling 800-594-8499.
