CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Marcia Ball is feeling the pull of two loves these days.
She still loves to sing the blues — as she will on the stage for Blues, Brews & BBQ Friday night at the University of Charleston.
"We play about 125 shows a year, about 10 a month," Ball said. "And we do them in bunches, sometimes 10 in a row. It's still a highly competitive business. There are more new bands every day — young bands coming up and old bands coming down. I'm trying to be in the same place I've been for a long time. But I presume my energy and opportunity will dovetail."
No worries there for the sassy-voiced keyboardist who makes her home in Austin, Texas.
"I have some serious reasons to want to stay home, too," she said, including two "delightful" grandsons.
"I'm enjoying my grandsons with a clarity that I probably never gave to my own son," she said. And, yeah, they're musically inclined.
