Huntington workers threaten daily pickets
HUNTINGTON -- Public employees in West Virginia's second-largest city are planning daily pickets in front of City Hall to demand new contract negotiations.
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 598 represents about 100 of Huntington's 360 workers. They've been without a contract since July 2008.
Mayor Kim Wolfe responded in a letter to the union and to police and fire unions that he hasn't determined yet whether new contracts are in the city's best interest.
Workers picketed Wednesday in front of City Hall. Danny Plybon, a past president of the local, says they plan to picket every day, and may picket the opening ceremony for the U.S. Youth Soccer Region I Championships on Thursday.
