Officers to educate public about new cellphone law
State Police Capt. C.J. White sits behind the wheel of his cruiser with a Blue Ant in his ear. The device allows him to talk and text hands free, in compliance with the texting law that goes into effect Sunday and the State Police's policy prohibiting troopers from using their cellphones without hands-free devices.
Some troopers have booster phones mounted in their cruisers. The phones are voice activated and allow officers to use them hands free.
