The remains of an elderly man were found in his Peytona mobile home and Boone County deputies suspect homicide.
Jimmie Cooper, 71, was found dead in his home behind the Peytona Southern Baptist Church just off W.Va. 3 overnight Wednesday, Boone Sheriff Rodney Miller said Thursday.
The remains, which were badly decomposed, were sent to the Office of the State Medical Examiner for autopsy.
Deputies went to the mobile home late Wednesday to check on Cooper after a co-worker drove by the trailer and saw the door open.
The home showed signs of forced entry, Miller said. State Police are assisting with the investigation.
Miller said it wasn't clear when Cooper was last seen. His vehicle was found in Putnam County earlier this week and the sheriff said detectives are trying to determine how it got there.
Deputies are interviewing possible witnesses.
