MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - A man convicted of killing his son's estranged wife in a parking lot is being sued by the victim's estate.
The Dominion Post (http://bit.ly/r8Ei4o ) reports that the administrator of 29-year-old Shannon Stafford's estate filed the lawsuit against Larry Mitchell in Monongalia County Circuit Court. The lawsuit also names Mitchell's son, Nathan, and his wife, Sandra, as defendants.
Larry Mitchell pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on Dec. 7 and received a life sentence with no chance for parole.
Authorities say Mitchell fatally shot Stafford in a Walmart parking lot in Morgantown on April 21. Stafford was there to meet Mitchell's son and pick up their 2-year-old daughter for a weekend visit.
Mitchell's criminal attorney, Tom Dyer, says the defendants have seen the lawsuit. He declined to comment on it.
