Daily 3 lottery players with big with payout
West Virginia Daily 3 players took in a big haul Wednesday.
The West Virginia Lottery announced Friday morning that total prizes paid out for Wednesday's drawing -- featuring winning numbers 2-2-2 -- hit $302,500.
Lottery director John Musgrave said that prize pool was 1,135 percent more than the $26,758 in total sales generated by the drawing.
That was the highest payout-to-sales ratio ever recorded since the game began in March 1987.
While it is the highest payout ratio, Wednesday's drawing is just the second largest cash payout for the game. The record high payout was $344,750 for the January 13, 1996 drawing, which featured winning numbers 1-2-3. That drawing had previously held the payout-to-sales record, with the Lottery paying out 885 percent of the amount of tickets sold for the drawing.
