In light of the approval of an urban agriculture ordinance in Charleston, coupled with a general interest, the West Virginia University Extension Service in Kanawha County has planned a free "backyard poultry workshop" on Wednesday. In this Daily Mail file photo, Taylor Books shop owner Ann Saville's chickens live happily on her Capitol Street rooftop.
Saville says she gets excited when the chickens lay their eggs. She stocks their coop with straw and gives them spent grain -- barley or wheat -- from her brew pub: Charleston Brewing Company.
Ann Saville's roster of chickens include the blonde Norma Jean, all-black Morticia and red-hued Rosie.
