Spencer residents receiving help after floods
A day after floodwaters ravaged most of Roane County, the American Red Cross continues to offer support at the Armory for those affected.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin will tour the flood-damaged area Friday with disaster relief crews and officials.
Residents who have flood damage, are encouraged to begin placing debris by the curb, as long as it does not impede traffic flow. City of Spencer crews and National Guard crews will begin collecting debris soon.
City official Jacob Fetty said the concert schedule for Friday in Spencer has been canceled.
Those within the listening area are encouraged to stay tuned to WVRC-FM for updates. Updates will also be available on the City of Spencer website (www.cityofspencer.com) and its Facebook page.
Fetty said anyone in the area who needs drinking water can use the Armory, where there is a hose to fill containers brought from home.
Residents who need anything else may call the City of Spencer at 304-927-1640, or the local Red Cross at 304-588-0725.
"If you need assistance, food, clothes, shelter please let them know," Fetty said in an email. "They are stationed at the Armory so you can either call them or go there if you are able to travel."
